honesty = kejujuran; mobile phone = telefon bimbit; come across = terjumpa
This unit is about being honest at school. Hafiz finds a mobile phone under a bench on the school field. Instead of keeping it to play with, he hands it straight to a teacher so the owner can be found. Honesty is more than not lying; it also means returning found items, admitting mistakes and taking good care of things we borrow.
Example: you forgot your homework, so you tell the teacher truthfully instead of making up an excuse.
Watch out: real honesty means staying honest even when nobody is watching.
Konsep
Apakah maksud jujur?
tell the truth = bercakap benar; admit = mengaku; no copying = tidak meniru
Honesty means speaking the truth and acting sincerely. At school, an honest pupil does not trick teachers or friends, admits mistakes, hands found items to a teacher, does exercises and tests without copying, and looks after borrowed things and returns them on time. Amanah means that when someone trusts you with something, you take proper care of it.
Example: Wong borrows a friend's colour pens and counts them one by one before giving them back.
Watch out: copying someone's answers may bring a high mark, but you have not truly learned anything.

Yang manakah sikap jujur?
Cikgu, saya belum siap latihan semalam. Saya akan siapkan waktu rehat.”
exercise = latihan; not finished = belum siap
Telling the teacher truthfully that your exercise is unfinished is honest; you may get a reminder, but the teacher will trust you and help find out why. Saying the book was left at home when it was never done is a lie, and copying a friend's answers before the teacher arrives is cheating. Honesty sometimes takes courage, yet it is what makes people trust us.
Example: Cikgu, saya belum siap latihan semalam. Saya akan siapkan waktu rehat.
Watch out: after admitting it, really do finish the work, keeping your word.

Cerita
Ravi menyorokkan beg Daniel kerana bergurau. Daniel panik mencarinya. Guru bertanya, “Siapa yang tahu?”
Tindakan Ravi
mengaku, minta maaf, berjanji tidak ulang
Hasilnya
guru memaafkan, Daniel lega
Perasaan Ravi
lega dan tenang
hide = menyorokkan; apologise = minta maaf; forgive = memaafkan
During recess, Ravi hides Daniel's bag behind the cupboard as a joke, and Daniel searches everywhere in a panic. When the teacher asks the class, Ravi is scared but raises his hand and owns up, apologises to Daniel and promises not to do it again. The teacher forgives him because he was honest. After telling the truth, Ravi feels a weight lifted.
Example: you knock over a friend's bottle and say at once, Maaf, saya yang terlanggar.
Watch out: jokes need limits; a joke that worries or upsets someone is not a good joke.

Mengapakah guru memaafkan Ravi?
Situasi
Ravi mengangkat tangan, mengaku menyorokkan beg Daniel dan meminta maaf. Guru memaafkannya.
forgive = memaafkan; admit a mistake = mengaku kesilapan
The teacher forgives Ravi because he honestly owned up and apologised to Daniel. Had he blamed someone else or pretended not to know, the teacher would be more disappointed on finding out, and the wrongly blamed pupil would be hurt. Admitting it shows he knows he was wrong and wants to change, so he deserves forgiveness.
Example: Nurul admits she forgot to water the class plant, and the teacher asks her to care for it tomorrow.
Watch out: after being forgiven, show through your actions that you have really changed.
honesty corner = sudut jujur; honesty box = tabung kejujuran; trustworthy = amanah
Class 3 Cemerlang has an honesty stationery corner: to buy a pencil or eraser, you drop the money into the honesty box yourself, with nobody watching. Honest pupils pay the full price. Being trustworthy is part of honesty too: Mei Ling borrows Siti's storybook, does not lend it to anyone else without asking, and returns it on time.
Example: an eraser costs 30 sen and you have RM1, so you put in RM1 and take 70 sen change from the change tin.
Watch out: if you lack the money, do not take the item yet; never promise to pay next time and then forget.

Padankan situasi dengan tindakan jujur
situation = situasi; hand over to = serah kepada
This screen links school situations with honest actions. Found money at the canteen? Hand it to a teacher. Accidentally broke a flower pot? Admit it to the teacher. Want a pencil from the honesty corner? Pay the right price. Borrowed a friend's book? Return it on time. Every situation has a right choice that you would make even if nobody saw.
Example: a classmate's watch found in the classroom also goes to the class teacher.
Watch out: even a tiny amount of found money, such as 20 sen, should still be handed in.
wallet = dompet; owner = pemilik
The honest steps after finding a wallet are: pick it up so nobody else takes it, do not open it or take anything out, hand it to a teacher quickly, and let the teacher find the owner and return it. Why not open it yourself to look for a name? Letting the teacher handle it is clearest, and nobody can suspect you of taking money.
Example: Aiman finds a wallet on the field and takes it straight to the duty teacher at the office.
Watch out: even if you are short of money yourself, say for a school trip, you must never take someone else's.

Apakah tindakan yang betul?
Situasi
Nurul belum cukup wang untuk yuran lawatan. Dia terjumpa dompet berisi wang di tandas sekolah.
trip fee = yuran lawatan; at once = dengan segera
Nurul is short of money for the trip fee and finds a wallet full of cash, which tests her honesty. The right move is to hand it to a teacher at once. Taking some of the money, however little, is stealing, and keeping the wallet until someone asks leaves the owner worried and may bring suspicion on her. As for the fee, she can honestly tell the teacher, and the school or her parents can find a way.
Example: the owner turns out to be a canteen worker, who thanks Nurul happily on getting it back.
Watch out: something that is not yours must not be taken, however badly you need it.

Apakah akibatnya jika Hafiz menyimpan telefon itu?
Situasi
Hafiz terjumpa telefon bimbit di padang. Bayangkan dia menyimpannya untuk diri sendiri.
owner = pemilik; trusted = dipercayai
If Hafiz keeps the phone he found, the owner will be worried and upset, since it may hold important photos and contacts. Once it comes out, teachers and friends will stop trusting Hafiz, and he will feel uneasy inside. Nobody praises such behaviour, and the owner certainly is not happy. Handing it in honestly puts everyone at ease.
Example: the owner is Daniel from Year 6, and the phone holds a photo of him with his grandmother.
Watch out: trust is lost quickly but takes a long time to win back.
Penilaian
Apakah tindakan yang jujur?
Situasi
例子:Siti 说“Cikgu, maaf, buku ini terkena air minuman saya.”
librarian = guru perpustakaan; dirty = kotor
The book Siti borrowed got wet and dirty, so the honest thing is to tell the librarian and apologise; the teacher can show her what to do, such as drying it or paying for it. Sneaking it back onto the shelf could get the next borrower blamed, and saying it was already dirty is a lie. Taking responsibility for what you caused is part of honesty.
Example: Siti says, Cikgu, maaf, buku ini terkena air minuman saya.
Watch out: next time, keep borrowed books apart from your water bottle so it does not happen again.
Penilaian
Apakah yang patut Wong lakukan?
Situasi
Wong diminta mengutip derma untuk tabung kebajikan kelas.
donation = derma; welfare fund = tabung kebajikan; entrusted = amanah
The teacher asks Wong to collect the class donations, which shows trust in him. The honest, trustworthy thing is to count the money and hand all of it to the teacher. Taking a little for snacks is misusing money placed in his care, and keeping it at home for weeks risks losing it and worries everyone. Whatever we are trusted with should be kept safely and handed back on time.
Example: Wong writes down how much each pupil gives and hands the list in with the money for the teacher to check.
Watch out: when counting, ask a classmate to count with you so everyone can be sure.
