Hari ini ada Hari Kantin di sekolah. Ramai pelawat datang. Nilai: Hormat
respect = hormat; visitor = pelawat
This unit is about showing respect to everyone at school and to the guests who come to visit. Today the school holds a canteen day, and many parents and guests arrive. Aiman greets them first and smiles, which is a clear sign of respect. Respect is not only for teachers; school workers, guards and guests deserve it too.
Example: when you see a visiting parent, say Selamat pagi.
Watch out: respect must show in what you do; just thinking it is not enough.
Konsep
Siapakah warga sekolah?
Guru
guru besar, guru kelas, guru kaunseling
Murid
kawan sekelas dan murid lain
Pekerja sekolah
tukang kebun, pekerja kantin, kerani
Pengawal keselamatan
menjaga pintu pagar sekolah
Pelawat
ibu bapa, pegawai, tetamu dari luar
school members = warga sekolah; school workers = pekerja sekolah; counselling teacher = guru kaunseling
This screen sorts the people at school into groups: teachers (including the head teacher and the counselling teacher), pupils, school workers such as the gardener, canteen staff and clerk, the security guard, and visitors from outside. Hormat means treating others politely and valuing what they do. Every one of these groups deserves our respect.
Example: when the clerk stamps your form, say Terima kasih, kak.
Watch out: visitors are not school members, yet they still deserve a warm and polite welcome.

Siapakah pelawat sekolah?
visitor = pelawat; come from outside = datang dari luar
To spot a visitor, ask whether the person studies or works at the school every day. The class teacher and the gardener are there daily, so they are school members. A classmate's father comes to the office only when he has business there, so he is a visitor. Knowing who someone is helps us choose how to welcome them.
Example: an education officer who comes for a meeting is also a visitor.
Watch out: members and visitors both deserve respect; only the way we host them differs.
Pengukuhan
Cara menghormati
Tutur kata yang sopan, tingkah laku yang baik
Beri salam
Selamat pagi, cikgu! Selamat pagi, pak cik!
Bercakap sopan
suara lembut, guna perkataan tolong
Dengar arahan
ikut arahan guru dan pengawas
Ketuk pintu
sebelum masuk bilik guru
Ucap terima kasih
kepada pekerja kantin dan kerani
Tunjuk jalan
bawa pelawat ke pejabat dengan sopan
greet = memberi salam; show the way = menunjuk jalan; teachers' room = bilik guru
This screen lists six ways to show respect at school: greet and smile, speak softly and politely, follow the instructions of teachers and prefects, knock before entering the teachers' room, thank the school workers, and lead visitors to the office. Each one is a small act, yet people notice it straight away.
Example: when a guest asks for directions, walk with them to the office door and say Di sini pejabatnya.
Watch out: point the way with your open palm, not by jabbing one finger.

Apakah yang patut Siti lakukan?
Situasi
help a visitor = membantu pelawat; polite = sopan
A guest who is lost on the school grounds gives you a chance to show respect. Greet them first, then walk with them to the teachers' room, and the guest will feel welcome. Pretending not to hear is rude, and shouting for the teacher across the field disturbs classes while the guest is still not taken anywhere.
Example: Siti says Mari saya tunjukkan, puan, and leads the way.
Watch out: if you do not know the way yourself, take the guest to the guard or the office instead of guessing.
Pengukuhan
Mengapa hormat penting?
Hormat mengeratkan hubungan
Kepentingan
hubungan erat · sekolah harmoni · pelawat rasa dialu-alukan · kita disenangi
Perasaan
kita berasa gembira · orang yang dihormati berasa dihargai
importance = kepentingan; harmonious = harmoni; feelings = perasaan
Why show respect? First, relationships grow closer. Second, the school feels harmonious and people get along. Third, visitors feel welcome and leave with a good impression of the school. Fourth, others come to like us too. When we respect others we feel happy inside, and the person we respect feels their effort is noticed.
Example: the canteen lady who hears thank you from pupils every day cooks with more cheer.
Watch out: we do not respect others to win a prize; we do it because everyone deserves good treatment.

Bagaimanakah perasaan Pak Ali?
Situasi
Pak Ali, pengawal keselamatan, membantu murid melintas jalan. Jason berkata, “Terima kasih, pak cik!”
security guard = pengawal keselamatan; feel valued = dihargai
The guard stands by the road every morning helping pupils cross, which is tiring work. When Jason thanks him, he feels his work is noticed, so he is happy and valued. Anger, disappointment, shyness or fear do not fit, because good manners from others do not hurt anyone.
Example: Pak Ali smiles and replies Sama-sama, belajar rajin-rajin ya.
Watch out: a thank you is simple, but say it sincerely while looking at the person.
match = padankan; gardener = tukang kebun; canteen worker = pekerja kantin
On this screen you link each respectful act to the right person. Saying thank you after buying food is for the canteen worker; knocking and greeting is for the teacher in the teachers' room; leading someone to the office is for a visitor; not stepping on the flowers respects the gardener who planted them. Think about where each act happens and who is there.
Example: speaking softly in the library respects the librarian and the readers.
Watch out: keeping off the flower beds is also respect, because it values someone else's hard work.
host a guest = melayan tetamu; ask their purpose = tanya hajat
Welcoming a visitor follows an order: greet first so the guest feels welcome, then politely ask who they want to see, next lead them to the right place, and finally say goodbye. Mixing up the order feels odd; for instance, leading the guest before asking may take them to the wrong room.
Example: Selamat pagi, encik. Encik hendak berjumpa siapa?
Watch out: if the person they want is not in, bring the guest to wait at the office rather than leaving them alone in the corridor.

Apakah tindakan yang betul?
Situasi
education officer = pegawai pejabat pendidikan; sit calmly = duduk dengan tenang
When an officer enters the classroom, the whole class can show good manners. Standing up, greeting together, then sitting quietly to carry on with the lesson tells the guest the class is well behaved. Chatting on shows you do not care about the guest, and rushing to the window to look at the car turns the room into chaos.
Example: the class monitor says Bangun, beri salam, and everyone says Selamat pagi, tuan.
Watch out: after the greeting, stay quiet; the guest came to watch you learn, not a show.
Pengayaan
Apakah akibatnya?
Situasi
consequence = akibat; rude = biadab
If pupils disrespect the school workers, for example by shouting at the cleaner or littering on purpose, the workers feel sad and unappreciated. Relationships suffer and the school loses its harmony. The school does not get cleaner and nobody wins a prize; those two choices are the opposite of what rudeness brings.
Example: someone mocks a worker's accent, and the worker stays gloomy all day.
Watch out: if you see a classmate being rude to a worker, remind them kindly, and tell a teacher if needed.
Penilaian
Apakah yang patut Daniel lakukan?
Situasi
Tukang kebun sedang memotong rumput. Kawan Daniel ketawa dan mengejeknya.
mock = mengejek; remind = menegur
When a friend mocks the gardener, the best move is to gently ask the friend to stop, for instance Jangan begitu, pak cik penat bekerja. Laughing along joins in the disrespect, and filming it to show others shames the gardener even more and makes things worse. Respecting someone can also mean protecting their dignity.
Example: Daniel leads his friend away, then nods to the gardener and says Maaf, pak cik.
Watch out: if the friend will not listen, tell a teacher rather than starting a quarrel.
Ringkasan
Syabas!
Hormati semua warga sekolah dan pelawat.
Beri salam, bercakap sopan, dengar arahan, ucap terima kasih dan tunjuk jalan. Sekolah menjadi harmoni.
