Perayaan Warga Sekolah

festival = perayaan; school members = warga sekolah; belief in God = kepercayaan kepada Tuhan This unit is about the festivals celebrated by pupils and teachers in our school. Our school has Malay, Chinese, Indian, Kadazandusun, Iban and other friends, and each group has its own faith and festivals. The value is belief in God, and we also learn to respect other people's celebrations. Example: at Hari Raya, Chinese New Year, Deepavali and Christmas, friends can greet each other and share the joy. Watch out: we learn the names and customs of festivals; we never compare whose belief is better.

Prophet's birthday = Maulidur Rasul; sweet rice = ponggal; Orang Asli new year = Jis Pai / Tahut Pai Our school friends celebrate even more festivals. Muslims mark Maulidur Rasul to remember the birthday of Prophet Muhammad; Indian friends celebrate Ponggal and cook a sweet rice also called ponggal; some Orang Asli friends celebrate their new year, called Jis Pai or Tahut Pai; and at Gawai, Iban friends wear new clothes and watch the Ngajat dance. Example: at the festival exhibition, Bah Goli tells everyone about Jis Pai, his new year. Watch out: Ponggal is the name of the festival and also of the sweet rice, so both uses are correct.

Watch out: Maulidur Rasul remembers the Prophet's birthday; it is not the sweet-rice festival.

Cara menghormati perayaan rakan

Apa yang boleh kita lakukan di sekolah?

1Ucapkan selamat menyambut perayaan.
2Ziarah rumah terbuka dengan izin ibu bapa.
3Jangan makan di hadapan rakan yang berpuasa.
4Bertanya tentang adat rakan dengan sopan.
5Jangan mengejek pakaian atau makanan perayaan.
respect = menghormati; to fast = berpuasa; open house = rumah terbuka This screen gives five ways to respect a friend's festival at school: say festival greetings, visit an open house only with your parents' permission, do not eat in front of a fasting friend, ask about customs politely, and never laugh at festive clothes or food. Example: during the fasting month, Jason eats at the other side of the canteen, not in front of Aiman. Watch out: being curious is fine, but ask in a polite voice.
Pengukuhan

Mengapa penting? Apa perasaan kita?

Kepentingan

Hubungan menjadi lebih erat
Sekolah aman dan harmoni
Kita kenal budaya rakan

Perasaan

Saya berasa gembira
Rakan berasa dihargai
Kami berasa bangga dengan sekolah
importance = kepentingan; feeling = perasaan; strengthen ties = mengeratkan hubungan Why should we respect our friends' festivals? Friendships grow stronger, the school stays peaceful and harmonious, and we learn about other cultures. When we celebrate together we feel happy, and our friends feel valued. Example: Siti receives a Hari Raya card from Mei Ling, feels warm inside, and they become close friends. Watch out: name your feeling clearly, such as saya berasa gembira, instead of just saying okay.
Pengukuhan · Soalan 3

Apakah tindakan Jason yang betul?

Bulan puasa. Aiman sedang berpuasa.
fasting month = bulan puasa; canteen = kantin; considerate = bertimbang rasa Aiman is fasting, so he does not eat or drink from dawn to sunset. Jason is hungry at recess and of course he may eat. The question is where and how he eats so that Aiman does not feel uncomfortable. Choose the considerate action. Example: Ravi keeps his snack in his bag and eats it at another table. Watch out: Jason does not need to fast too; he just should not show off his food.
Pemulihan

Padankan perayaan dengan adatnya

match = padankan; custom = adat; red packet = angpau On this screen you link each festival to its custom. Tap a festival on the left first, then tap its custom on the right. The five festivals are Hari Raya, Chinese New Year, Deepavali, Christmas and Kaamatan, and each has one famous custom. Example: Chinese New Year goes with giving angpau, because elders hand red packets to children. Watch out: Kaamatan celebrates the rice harvest; it is not about decorating a tree.

Susun langkah membuat kolam

step = langkah; chalk = kapur; display = pamerkan The class makes a kolam together to learn about a Deepavali custom. The steps have an order: draw the pattern with chalk, fill it with coloured rice, tidy the edges so the pattern looks neat, and finally display it in the class corner. Tap the cards in that order. Example: Daniel and Kavitha work as a pair; one draws the lines and the other fills in the rice. Watch out: if you pour rice before drawing, it spreads everywhere and the pattern is lost.
Pengayaan · Soalan 4

open house = rumah terbuka; invite = menjemput; ask permission = minta izin Siti invites Daniel to her Hari Raya open house on Saturday. When we visit someone's home for a festival, our parents must know and agree first, and when we arrive we greet the host and behave politely. Choose the action that is both safe and respectful. Example: Wong goes with his mother to Kavitha's house and says Selamat Hari Deepavali at the door. Watch out: if you do not like a dish, just take less; never call it strange.
Pengayaan · Soalan 5

Apakah akibatnya?

Seorang murid mengejek pakaian perayaan rakannya di bilik darjah.
consequence = akibat; tease = mengejek; drift apart = renggang This question is about what happens after a wrong action. If someone laughs at a friend's traditional festival clothes, how will that friend feel, and will the friendship become better or worse? Imagine being laughed at, then answer. Example: Nurul wears her baju kurung to school, someone laughs, and she stays quiet all day. Watch out: for a consequence question, pick what would really happen, not what you wish would happen.
Penilaian · Soalan 6

Ucapan manakah yang sesuai?

Wong membuat kad ucapan untuk Kavitha sempena Deepavali.
greeting card = kad ucapan; greeting = ucapan; suitable = sesuai Wong makes a greeting card for Kavitha for Deepavali. The greeting must match the festival; if the festival name is wrong, the friend may feel you did not care. Choose the sentence that fits this card best. Example: a Christmas card for Daniel says Selamat Hari Krismas, and a card for Siti says Selamat Hari Raya. Watch out: check which festival it is before writing, and spell your friend's name correctly.
Penilaian · Soalan 7

Mengapakah kita menghormati perayaan rakan?

respect = menghormati; peaceful = aman; closer = bertambah erat This is a review question: what is the real benefit of respecting the festivals of school members? The answer should be good for the whole school, not just a prize for yourself. Recall the reasons we learned: closer friendships, a harmonious school and knowing other cultures. Example: pupils of all races decorate a festival corner together, and the class feels lively and united. Watch out: getting red packets or a holiday is not why we respect others.
