这一课认识各国的钱叫什么名字。我们在马来西亚用 ringgit，到了泰国要用 baht，到了日本要用 yen。东盟（ASEAN）是东南亚十个国家组成的组织，每个国家都有自己的货币名称。我们先学东盟十国，再学美国、英国、澳洲、沙特阿拉伯和日本。

注意：货币名称是“名字”，不是数目，记名字和国家的配对就可以。

In this unit we learn the names of money used in different countries. In Malaysia we use ringgit, in Thailand people pay with baht and in Japan with yen. ASEAN is a group of ten South-East Asian countries, and each one has its own currency name. We start with the ten ASEAN countries, then the United States, Great Britain, Australia, Saudi Arabia and Japan.
Example: on a trip to Singapore you pay with Singapore dollars.
Watch out: a currency name is a name, not an amount; what matters is pairing each country with its currency.

Start with the five ASEAN countries nearest to us. Malaysia uses the ringgit. Singapore uses the dollar, and Brunei also uses the dollar, but the Singapore dollar and the Brunei dollar are two different currencies. Indonesia uses the rupiah. Thailand uses the baht.
Example: crossing the bridge from Johor Bahru into Singapore, you change your money into Singapore dollars.
Watch out: two countries both saying dolar does not mean the same money; always say the country name with it.

泰国在马来西亚北边，用的钱叫 baht。rupiah 是印尼的，ringgit 是我们马来西亚的，都不是泰国的。记法：泰国（Thailand）和 baht 都有字母 t 和 h。
例子：在曼谷买一碗面，店员会说价钱是多少 baht。
注意：别把 baht 和 rupiah 调换，一个是泰国，一个是印尼。
Thailand's currency = mata wang Thailand
Thailand lies north of Malaysia and its money is called the baht. The rupiah belongs to Indonesia and the ringgit to Malaysia, so neither is Thai. A memory tip: Thailand and baht both contain the letters t and h.
Example: buying a bowl of noodles in Bangkok, the seller tells you the price in baht.
Watch out: do not swap baht and rupiah; one is Thailand and the other is Indonesia.

The other five ASEAN countries have currency names that are less familiar. The Philippines uses the peso, Vietnam the dong, Laos the kip, Cambodia the riel and Myanmar the kyat. Saying the names aloud a few times makes them stick: peso, dong, kip, riel, kyat.
Example: the kip of Laos has only three letters, the shortest name of all.
Watch out: kip is Laos, riel is Cambodia and kyat is Myanmar; these three are the easiest to mix up, so learn them separately.

riel 是柬埔寨（Kemboja）的货币。老挝用 kip，缅甸用 kyat，都不是 riel。柬埔寨在泰国和越南中间，所以提示说它是泰国和越南的邻国。
例子：到柬埔寨看吴哥窟，门票用 riel 或美元付。
注意：riel 和 kyat 都是四个字母，别靠长度记，要靠国家记。

The riel is the currency of Cambodia (Kemboja). Laos uses the kip and Myanmar uses the kyat, so neither is the riel. Cambodia lies between Thailand and Vietnam, which is why the hint calls it their neighbour.
Example: visiting Angkor Wat in Cambodia, tickets are paid in riel or US dollars.
Watch out: riel and kyat both have four letters, so remember them by country, not by length.

五个国家配五种货币：印尼 rupiah，菲律宾 peso，越南 dong，缅甸 kyat，老挝 kip。每个国家只有一种，配完一个就少一个选择，先配最有把握的。
例子：先配 Indonesia → rupiah，剩下的再慢慢想。
注意：Vietnam 的 dong 和 Myanmar 的 kyat 别互换。

Five countries pair with five currencies: Indonesia rupiah, the Philippines peso, Vietnam dong, Myanmar kyat and Laos kip. Each country has only one, so every pair you make leaves fewer choices; start with the ones you are surest about.
Example: pair Indonesia → rupiah first, then think about the rest.
Watch out: do not swap Vietnam's dong with Myanmar's kyat.

Outside ASEAN there are five currencies we often hear about. The United States uses the dollar, Great Britain the pound, Australia the dollar, Saudi Arabia the riyal and Japan the yen. Counting Singapore and Brunei too, four countries in our list use a dollar.
Example: pilgrims going to Makkah change money into riyal; travellers to Tokyo change into yen.
Watch out: the pound belongs to Great Britain; do not mix it up with Saudi Arabia's riyal or Japan's yen.

日本用 yen。riyal 是沙特阿拉伯的，pound 是英国的。记法：Jepun 和 yen 都很短，而且 yen 的发音和“圆”很像。

注意：yen 和 riyal 开头不一样，一个是 y，一个是 r，别看错。
Japan's currency = mata wang Jepun
Japan uses the yen. The riyal is Saudi Arabia's and the pound is Great Britain's. A tip: Jepun and yen are both short words, and yen sounds like the Chinese word for round.
Example: a bottle of water in Japan costs a few hundred yen.
Watch out: yen starts with y and riyal with r; read the first letter carefully.

例子：先配最熟的 Amerika Syarikat → dolar。
注意：Australia 也用 dolar，但这题没有澳洲，所以 dolar 只配美国。

Great Britain pound, Saudi Arabia riyal, Japan yen and the United States dollar. Think by region: Great Britain in Europe uses the pound, Saudi Arabia in the Middle East the riyal, Japan in East Asia the yen and the United States in America the dollar.
Example: pair the most familiar one first, Amerika Syarikat → dolar.
Watch out: Australia also uses a dollar, but Australia is not in this set, so dolar pairs only with the United States here.

不用 dolar 的国家 = negara yang tidak guna dolar
名单里用 dolar 的有四个：新加坡、文莱、美国、澳洲。泰国用的是 baht，所以泰国不用 dolar。这题问的是“不是”，要先把用 dolar 的排除掉。
例子：Brunei → dolar，Australia → dolar，剩下 Thailand 就是答案。
注意：题目有 TIDAK（不）的时候，要找跟别的不一样的那个。

Four countries in our list use a dollar: Singapore, Brunei, the United States and Australia. Thailand uses the baht, so Thailand does not use the dollar. The question asks for the one that does NOT, so first rule out the dollar countries.
Example: Brunei → dolar and Australia → dolar, leaving Thailand as the answer.
Watch out: when a question says TIDAK (not), look for the one that is different from the rest.
