sweet memories = kenangan manis; news = berita; passive verb = kata kerja pasif
In this unit Aina's family remember happy times: bringing gifts on a visit to relatives, joining a caring camp, playing a traditional game in the village and touring a herb garden. We review simple and compound sentences, read a news report, write a paragraph, and learn active and passive verbs.
Example: Aina memetik daun (active) becomes Daun dipetik oleh Aina (passive).
Watch out: a passive verb starts with di- and is often followed by oleh.
Mendengar dan Bertutur
Buah tangan untuk Mak Long
Ayat tunggal dan ayat majmuk
Ibu:Mari kita beli buah tangan untuk Mak Long.
Aina:Mak Long suka mangga tetapi Pak Long suka rambutan.
Ayah:Kita beli mangga dan kita beli rambutan juga.
Penjual:Limau madu ini sangat manis.
Farid:Saya mahu membeli limau bali kerana adik suka buah itu.
buah tangan
hadiah yang dibawa semasa berkunjung
Ayat tunggal
satu subjek, satu predikat
Ayat majmuk
dua ayat + kata hubung
手信 = buah tangan;探访 = berkunjung
去大伯母家的路上,Aina 一家在水果摊买手信。buah tangan 是成语,意思是探访别人时带去的礼物,不一定是水果。绿色句子是单句,红色句子用了 tetapi、dan、kerana,是复句。
例子:Nenek membawa kuih sebagai buah tangan.(奶奶带糕点当手信)
注意:buah tangan 不是“手上的水果”,蛋糕、饼干也可以是手信。
gift for a visit = buah tangan; visit = berkunjung
On the way to their aunt's house, Aina's family stop at a fruit stall to buy a gift. Buah tangan is an idiom for a present you bring when visiting someone, and it need not be fruit. The green lines are simple sentences; the red lines use tetapi, dan or kerana, so they are compound.
Example: Nenek membawa kuih sebagai buah tangan.
Watch out: buah tangan does not mean fruit in your hand; a cake or biscuits can be one too.
Mendengar dan Bertutur · Soalan 1
Ayat manakah ayat majmuk?
复句 = ayat majmuk;开车 = memandu
“爸爸开车,妈妈看地图”有两个人、两件事,用 dan 接起来,所以是复句。“爸爸开车去大伯母家”只讲爸爸一件事;“妈妈带了一大篮手信”也只讲一件事,所以都是单句。
例子:Farid tidur tetapi Aina menyanyi di dalam kereta.
注意:句子长短不是重点,要看有没有两个完整的单句。
compound sentence = ayat majmuk; drive = memandu
'Father drives and mother reads the map' has two people doing two things joined by dan, so it is compound. 'Father drives to the aunt's house' tells only Father's action, and 'Mother brings a big basket of gifts' also tells one action, so both are simple sentences.
Example: Farid tidur tetapi Aina menyanyi di dalam kereta.
Watch out: length does not matter; check for two complete simple sentences.

Kem Ceria untuk anak yatim
Kem Ceria Ceriakan Anak Yatim
news report = berita; orphan = anak yatim; counsellor = kaunselor
A news report tells us about something that happened, usually answering what, who, when, where and why. Read it like a newsreader, in a clear and steady voice. This report is about a family who held a two-day camp for forty orphans, with fun games, a jungle trek and a hanging-bridge walk.
Example: the opening words RAUB, 12 Jun give the place and the date.
Watch out: news reports facts, so do not read it in an over-dramatic voice.
Membaca · Soalan 2
Apakah tujuan Kem Ceria?
目的 = tujuan;鼓励 = memberikan semangat
新闻第二段写着办营的目的,是要给孩子们打气、鼓励他们。走吊桥只是营里的一个活动,不是教他们建桥;文章也没有提到要找人参加运动比赛。
例子:问“为什么办”时,就找文章里“目的是……”的句子。
注意:活动内容和办活动的目的是两回事,不要搞混。
purpose = tujuan; encourage = memberikan semangat
The second paragraph states the camp's purpose: to give the children encouragement. Walking the hanging bridge is only one activity, not a lesson in building bridges, and the report never mentions finding athletes for a competition.
Example: when a question asks why an event was held, look for the sentence that begins with its purpose.
Watch out: the activities at an event and the reason for holding it are two different things.
Menulis
Menulis perenggan
Menonton video kenangan kem
ruang tamu
bilik untuk menerima tetamu
tayangan video
video yang dipertontonkan
mengedarkan minuman
memberikan minuman kepada semua orang
meniti jambatan gantung
berjalan perlahan di atas jambatan
gayat
paragraph = perenggan; afraid of heights = gayat; hanging bridge = jambatan gantung
A paragraph is a group of sentences about one idea. The first sentence introduces the time, place and people, and the rest follow in the order things happened. Five phrases are used here: living room, video showing, handing out drinks, crossing the hanging bridge and feeling afraid of heights.
Example: Pada malam Sabtu, keluarga Aina berkumpul di ruang tamu sets the time, place and people.
Watch out: indent the first line of a paragraph.
Menulis · Soalan 3
Ayat manakah paling sesuai sebagai ayat pertama?
第一句 = ayat pertama;介绍 = memperkenalkan
段落的第一句要先交代什么时候、在哪里、有谁。“那晚,我们一家人聚在客厅”正好把时间、地点、人物都说清楚。哥哥笑、妈妈分饮料都是后来发生的细节,放在开头读者会看不懂。
例子:Pada hari Ahad, kami pergi ke taman herba. 也是好的开头句。
注意:先写开头,再写经过,最后写结尾。
first sentence = ayat pertama; introduce = memperkenalkan
A paragraph's first sentence should set out when, where and who. 'That night, our family gathered in the living room' does exactly that. Farid laughing and Mother handing out drinks are later details, and starting with them would confuse the reader.
Example: Pada hari Ahad, kami pergi ke taman herba. is also a good opening sentence.
Watch out: write the beginning first, then what happened, then the ending.
Tatabahasa
Kata kerja aktif transitif
Bermain gelek rim di kampung
Gelek Rim
Di halaman rumah atuk, Aina menolakrim basikal dengan sebatang kayu. Farid membawadua batang kayu. Atuk melihatcucu-cucunya dari beranda. Akhirnya, Aina memenangiperlumbaan itu.
Kata kerja transitif
menolak · membawa · melihat · memenangi · menatang
Objek
rim basikal · dua batang kayu · cucu-cucunya
Subjek + kata kerja transitif + objek
及物动词 = kata kerja aktif transitif;宾语 = objek
及物动词后面一定要有宾语,就是接受这个动作的人或东西。Aina 推什么?推轮圈,所以轮圈是宾语。如果只说“Aina 推”,句子就不完整。这类动词常以 me- 开头,例如 menolak、membawa、melihat。
例子:Ibu menatang dulang berisi air.(妈妈双手端着放水的托盘)
注意:宾语一般紧跟在动词后面,中间不加 di、ke 等介词。
transitive verb = kata kerja aktif transitif; object = objek
A transitive verb must be followed by an object, the person or thing that receives the action. What does Aina push? The rim, so the rim is the object. Saying only 'Aina pushes' leaves the sentence incomplete. Such verbs often begin with me-, like menolak, membawa and melihat.
Example: Ibu menatang dulang berisi air.
Watch out: the object normally comes straight after the verb, with no di or ke in between.
Tatabahasa
Kata kerja aktif tak transitif
Tidak memerlukan objek
Tanpa pelengkap
Mereka berlumba. Atuk tersenyum. Nenek duduk.
Berpelengkap
Aina berasagembira. Adik tidur berselimutkankain batik. Mereka makan beralaskantikar.
Tanpa pelengkap: ayat sudah lengkap. Berpelengkap: perlu perkataan selepasnya supaya maksud lengkap.
不及物动词 = kata kerja aktif tak transitif;补语 = pelengkap
不及物动词不需要宾语。有些不用补语,句子已经完整,例如“他们赛跑”“爷爷微笑”。有些需要补语,意思才完整,例如“Aina 感到”要加上“开心”,“垫着”要加上“草席”。
例子:Kucing itu tidur berselimutkan kain lama.(猫盖着旧布睡觉)
注意:补语不是宾语,它不是接受动作的东西,只是把意思补完整。
intransitive verb = kata kerja aktif tak transitif; complement = pelengkap
An intransitive verb needs no object. Some need no complement and the sentence is already complete, like 'they race' or 'Grandpa smiles'. Others need a complement to finish the meaning: berasa needs a word like gembira, and beralaskan needs something like tikar.
Example: Kucing itu tidur berselimutkan kain lama.
Watch out: a complement is not an object; it does not receive the action, it only completes the meaning.
Tatabahasa · Soalan 4
Ayat manakah ada kata kerja transitif?
及物动词 = kata kerja transitif;宾语 = objek
membawa(拿、带)后面接着“一根木棍”,木棍就是接受动作的宾语,所以这是及物动词。berlari(跑)后面是地点,tersenyum(微笑)后面是对象介词短语,它们都不需要宾语,是不及物动词。
例子:Atuk membaiki basikal.(爷爷修脚车)
注意:动词后面先出现 di、kepada 等介词的,通常不是宾语。
transitive verb = kata kerja transitif; object = objek
Membawa is followed by sebatang kayu, the stick that receives the action, so it is transitive. Berlari is followed by a place, and tersenyum by a phrase beginning with kepada, so neither needs an object; both are intransitive.
Example: Atuk membaiki basikal.
Watch out: when di or kepada comes right after the verb, what follows is usually not an object.
Tatabahasa · Soalan 5
Pilih pelengkap yang sesuai.
Aina dan Farid berasa _______ selepas bermain gelek rim.
complement = pelengkap; feel = berasa
Berasa is an intransitive verb that needs a complement, so it must be followed by a feeling. Gembira is a feeling, so it fits. Rim is a thing and menolak is another action, and neither makes sense after 'feel'.
Example: Atuk berasa bangga melihat cucunya menang.
Watch out: berasa is followed by a feeling word such as sedih, penat or takut.
Tatabahasa
Kata kerja pasif
Lawatan ke taman herba
Ayat aktif
Aina memetik daun pudina.
Ayat pasif
Daun pudina dipetik oleh Aina.
1Pindahkan objek ke hadapan: daun pudina
2Tukar meN- kepada di-: memetik → dipetik
3Tambah oleh sebelum pelaku: oleh Aina
Contoh lain: diberikan · dikutip · diambil · dicatat
被动动词 = kata kerja pasif;主动句 = ayat aktif
主动句是主语做动作;改成被动句有三步:把宾语搬到前面,把动词的 meN- 换成 di-,再在做动作的人前面加 oleh。在草药园里,Aina 摘薄荷叶,改成被动句就是“薄荷叶被 Aina 摘”。
例子:Farid mencatat nama pokok. → Nama pokok dicatat oleh Farid.
注意:不要漏了 oleh,也不要写成 di- 加 me- 一起用。
passive verb = kata kerja pasif; active sentence = ayat aktif
In an active sentence the subject does the action. To make it passive, follow three steps: move the object to the front, change meN- to di-, and put oleh before the doer. At the herb garden, Aina picks mint leaves; in the passive, the mint leaves are picked by Aina.
Example: Farid mencatat nama pokok. becomes Nama pokok dicatat oleh Farid.
Watch out: do not drop oleh, and never stack di- and me- together.
Kata Kerja Pasif · Bina ayat
Bina ayat pasif.
农业官员 = pegawai pertanian;传单 = risalah
主动句是“农业官员发传单”。改成被动句:先把传单放在最前面,接着写 diberikan,然后写 oleh,最后写农业官员。四张卡排好就是一个被动句。
例子:Ayah mengambil gambar. → Gambar diambil oleh ayah.
注意:oleh 一定要放在做动作的人前面。
agriculture officer = pegawai pertanian; leaflet = risalah
The active sentence is 'the agriculture officer gives out leaflets'. To make it passive, put Risalah first, then diberikan, then oleh, and finally the officer. Arranged this way, the four cards form a passive sentence.
Example: Ayah mengambil gambar. becomes Gambar diambil oleh ayah.
Watch out: oleh must come right before the person who does the action.
Kata Kerja Pasif · Soalan 6
Ayat aktif: Farid mengutip daun serai. Pilih ayat pasif yang betul.
捡 = mengutip;香茅叶 = daun serai
主动句是“Farid 捡香茅叶”。被动句要把香茅叶放在前面,mengutip 改成 dikutip,再加 oleh Farid。有一句没有把 meN- 改成 di-;另一句把人和叶子的位置弄反了,意思变成叶子捡 Farid,完全不对。
例子:Ibu memasak nasi. → Nasi dimasak oleh ibu.
注意:被动句只是换个说法,意思要跟原句一样。
pick up = mengutip; lemongrass leaves = daun serai
The active sentence says Farid picks up lemongrass leaves. In the passive, the leaves come first, mengutip becomes dikutip, and oleh Farid follows. One wrong choice keeps meN- instead of di-, and the other swaps the doer and the leaves, so the leaves pick up Farid, which makes no sense.
Example: Ibu memasak nasi. becomes Nasi dimasak oleh ibu.
Watch out: a passive sentence must keep the same meaning as the active one.
Ringkasan
Syabas!
Kenangan manis, bahasa pun manis!
Buah tangan ialah hadiah semasa berkunjung. Kata kerja transitif memerlukan objek. Kata kerja tak transitif tidak memerlukan objek. Ayat pasif menggunakan di- dan oleh.
